The Doctors Airlie Beach for a long time at least, is going to remain its own very special 'kettle of fish'.
By others standards, it's a small sleepy town. Even if you were to add its similarly sized neighbour – Proserpine – you'd still only find that there are around 25,000 people who live
there. Airlie Beach has four General Practices – of which three are group practices. Its nearest Public Hospital is in Proserpine – overnight Proserpine Hospital is happy to call a doctor in to deal with urgent matters.
Nonetheless, Airlie Beach's importance to all of Australia is only going to increase with time – for it is the hub and it supports all of The Whitsunday's gorgeous inhabited isles. It's
rapidly becoming a compulsory stop on a backpacker's tour. And, like a lot of other regions of the country, the whole area isn't suited by the fact that medical services seem to be extraordinarily expensive and difficult to
find, especially after-hours.
